The Impressive Staff of Jollibee Buendia/LRT Branch
By Apolinario Villalobos

I will never tire of writing about inspiring people out there whose diligence in their job is just remarkable, as I keep on encountering them. One of them was MS. JHENNY AVILA, cashier of the Jollibee Buendia/LRT Branch. I was impressed by how she was able to convince me to take breakfast despite my intention to just have a cup of coffee on the morning I dropped by the said burger outlet. Smiling her sweetest, she practically, insisted that I try any of their breakfast offerings, so I opted for the double pancake and coffee. She just showed how an aggressive sales talk can win over a hesitant customer.

I was further surprised by the presence of MR. VINCENT MACHADO behind me who was waiting for my move to proceed to my chosen seat…and, without much ado, he asked that he carry my tray for me. Again, another trademark of Jolibee surfaced. His act was followed by the efficiently smooth move of MS. MAYLENE ORONGAN to clear the table to give way to my tray. I knew that what they did were routine and also being done by the crew of any burger joint, especially, their competitor. But there was something in how they smiled to customers that made the difference.

My good impression about the Jolibee service did not end there, as I had an opportunity to talk to one of the duty supervisors for the shift, MR. AYZON HERNANDEZ, working in tandem with MS. JENNICA TOLEDO, another supervisor. Both were a standout in their distinct striped light blue uniform. Mr. Hernandez, confided that he, too, worked his way up since he joined Jollibee as a struggling crew and who had to attend classes after his duty, that is why he felt so much for the new generation of working students Today, the branch according to him has five “scholars”, with Maylene as one of them. Jollibee accordingly, is known for this education-bound advocacy, one of the reasons perhaps, why the joint is so blessed!

Practically, the whole staff of Jollibee seemed to be well-rounded in their job as I observed that everybody knew how to handle the job of a colleague, so that the whole operation looked well-orchestrated. For instance, Mr. Machado and Ms. Orongan opened the door for customers if they were not busy carrying trays and cleaning tables. Both supervisors, Mr. Hernandez and Ms. Toledo also did cashiering, and even the guard pitched in …it was a show of a smooth spontaneous cooperation that ensued as if on unspoken cue. If only other service-oriented outlets could be like Jollibee, I don’t think that there would be an unsatisfied customer, at all!

The very Likeable "Jolly Bees" of Jollibee- Baclaran LRT Terminal Branch

THE VERY LIKEABLE “JOLLY BEES”
OF JOLLIBEE- BACLARAN LRT TERMINAL BRANCH
By Apolinario Villalobos

I was among the early customers of the Jollibee-Baclaran LRT Terminal Branch one morning, and who dropped by for a cup of their brewed coffee. While the two cashiers were busy attending to other customers, I stood by to wait for my turn when a lady staff who was sweeping the floor put aside the broom, positioned herself behind a vacant cash register, and smilingly offered to help me. In my curiosity, I asked her if cashiering was part of her training as Jollibee staff for I presumed that her task was limited to cleaning the floor and tables. To my surprise she told me that although it’s not, she has got a little knowledge of cashiering and that she was pitching in just so she could serve me outright for my comfort. Well, that’s what I call “total service” that other customer service-oriented entities must really practice, if only to manifest the “bayanihan” trait that we Filipinos are proud of.

I learned that the lady staff was Mae who offered to bring the coffee that I ordered to my table when she noticed that I was about to use my cell phone. Later, I observed that even the supervisors were as busy as the rest of the staff. They were Jay, Enel, and Reggie…but I presumed that one of them was the manager.

As with the rest of the Jollibee restrooms, the one at the Baclaran LRT branch was also in spick and span state. Noticeably, Jay, the supervisor was losing no moment in seeing to it that this important facility was always mopped and without any whiff of malodorous air.

That morning, because of the foul weather, the branch’s security guard may have been stranded along the way, so that I also noticed that Jay, himself, one of the supervisors was opening the door for customers as part of his ground walk.

As a Filipino, I feel proud for the kind of “Jollibee service” that has even spread in other parts of the world!

Anna Bermudo: Kindness Behind A Pretty Face

Anna Bermudo: Kindness Behind A Pretty Face
By Apolinario Villalobos

When I took a respite at a Jollibee joint in Divisoria, particularly, corner of Sto. Cristo St., due to my heavy packs, I found out that I needed a separate bag for some items intended to be given to one of my friends in Baseco. It was then, that I noticed one of the crew who was cleaning tables. I told her my problem, without much ado, she left and when she came back, she had a paper bag which was just what I needed. Her prompt assistance impressed me, despite her doing something else during the time. She practically dropped everything and attended to me, although, customers were beginning to crowd the room.

My appreciation for such kind act, made me ask her permission if I can share it with friends. She shyly hesitated, but I had my chance to take her photo quickly, when she began to clean my table. She thought I was joking when I aimed my cellphone/camera for a quick shot. I found the photo to be hazy when I checked it at Baseco, so I came back to the burger joint. Luckily, I found her having a late breakfast in a sidewalk food stall near Jollibee. I practically begged her to allow me to take a clearer photo, explaining to her that what I am doing is for the benefit of others who might be inspired by people like her. Fortunately, she conceded and even cooperated by giving information about herself.

Although merely, a high school graduate, she courageously left her hometown in Zamboanga to seek a “greener pasture” in Manila several years ago. She had no chance of pursuing her studies, as she had been helping her family by sending whatever amount she could afford from her wage when she found a job. I could see that her right attitude has earned her a well-deserved job in the world-renown Filipino burger outfit which is also acknowledged for its fairness in dealing with employees.

Anna is pretty, an attribute that could land her a much better-paying job in cafes that could be double or triple compared to what she is earning in Jollibee. But I could surmise that despite temptations from friends, that always happen to pretty girls from the countryside, she opted to work in a family-oriented establishment. Her clean and smooth face is not covered even by a thin swipe of rouge, and she wears no jewelry, not even a single stainless ring. Her simplicity has accentuated her pretty face…. that veils an innate kindness.
