She is such a colorful lady ever, who I have read and heard about. She is feisty and weighed down her words with piercing look and if in the mood with matching finger- pointing, yet. Known as the “Iron Lady of Asia”, she doesn’t give a damn, as to who she was berating because of their misdoings…she was ready to die anyway, and in fact she declared many times that she “takes bullets for breakfast”. And, her legacy is the courage to face death, especially, if one has a scheduled expiration based on medical findings…wisdom that has not a single speck of hypocrisy and fear. She was most thankful, however, that her “schedule” was delayed.

She is best known for her witty “hugot” or pick up lines, some of which were extemporaneously composed and delivered on the spot to spice up her speeches. Another known part of her person was her shapely pair of million-dollar legs! She was featured once in the cover of Panorama Magazine in bathing suit sitting by the pool side of the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati, with extended legs that showed their gorgeous shape.

She entered the Michigan University to hone her innate intelligence which finally brought her to fame as a lawyer and law maker. But before that, she was also a teacher and a judge. A graduate of the University of the Philippines with a degree of Political Science, she did it as Magna cum Laude. To top it all, she was also the speech writer of Ferdinand Marcos. And, to think that many thought, those fiery speeches that Marcos delivered, and who was admired for eloquence were from his own thoughts!

A Visayan who hailed from Iloilo City, she proudly declared that she was an Ilongga every time she had the opportunity. She sparked the spirit of the EDSA3 that led to the expulsion of Erap Estrada from Malacaἧan Palace. It was during her early years at the Senate, that both the spectators and fellow senators first heard her colorful remarks. She hated giggling, cell phones and unnecessary whispers when she had the floor. The current DOJ secretary had his share of colorful admonition when he was ordered to step out of the court room during a hearing, because she caught him covering his ears while she was delivering her piece of argument. Vitaliano Aguirre was so gentleman enough to meekly follow the order, instead of giving an alibi, such that the he was just trying to keep the sideburns of his toupee in place. She was ahead of Duterte in declaring that her life was in danger ever since she became a lawmaker. But her tough demeanor melted at the death of her son.

She desperately tried her best to give back to her country whatever strand of strength left with her during the twilight years of her life by even attempting to run as president in tandem with Bongbong Marcos as her running mate. Her courage and positive outlook showed their best every time she was on the road during the campaign period during which she was all smiles despite her heavy breathing every time she delivered a campaign speech. She must have known that she was nearing the “finish line” of her life because her messages were filled with premonitions.

Her utmost gratitude to God for having been given a fruitful, albeit chromatic and thrill-filled life must have been acknowledged when He gave her a peaceful eternal repose…..while asleep.

ANG SOBRANG SEXUAL ATTRACTION AY NAKAMAMATAY

O NAKAWAWALA NG KATINUAN NG PAG-IISIP

May pelikulang Ingles noon na ang title ay “Fatal Attraction”. Hindi ko napanood dahil nanghinayang ako sa pambayad pero sa mga kuwento ng mga kaibigan kong nakapanood, ito ay tungkol sa ugali ng tao na nawawala sa sarili dahil sa sobrang nararamdamang pagmamahal sa iba, kaya kung tatagalugin ang titulo, ito ay magiging, “Nakakamatay na Pagka-akit”. Maaaring ito ay magreresulta sa kamatayan ng nagmamahal o sa minamahal. Maaaring magpapakamatay ang desperadong nagmamahal kapag siya ay iniwan. Maaari ding patayin ng isang tao ang sobra niyang minamahal na balak siyang iwanan upang pumunta sa iba.

Ang nakakabahala ay ang epekto din nitong damdamin na nagpapawala sa katinuan ng taong nagmamahal….nawawala siya sa sarili dahil iniwan ng minamahal. Yong iba ay nakakalimutan na ang pag-ayos sa sarili, nalululong din sila sa alak o droga, at ang iba pa ay nagiging baliw. May alam akong natanggal sa trabaho dahil iniwan ng nobyo….palagi na kasing late kung pumasok at amoy alak pa. Yong isang babae rin ay pansamantala o temporarily na nawalan ng katinuan sa pag-iisip ng mamatay ang lalaking sobra niyang minahal…mabuti na lang at medyo nakaka-recover na ngayon dahil nililibang ko sa pamamagitan ng pagturo sa paggawa ng tula. Yong isa namang hindi naka-recover ay naging baliw na talaga kaya kung minsan ay naghuhubad sa kalye…patay na siya ngayon. Pero noong buhay pa at natitiyempuhan kong naghuhubad sa kalye ay nagtatakip na lang ako ng mga mata.

Maraming pelikula, na ang tema ay tungkol sa paggamit ng seksuwalidad upang makapangalap ng mga impormasyon ng ibang bansa at ang pinaka-popular ay ang kuwento ni “Mata Hari”, isang seksing espiya. Okey lang sana kung ang paggamit ng seksuwalidad ay upang makatulong sa ibang tao o bansa…ibig sabihin ay nagsakripisyo ang nagsangkalang ng kanyang puri dahil sa magandang layunin. Subalit ang hindi maganda ay ang basta na lang ma-attract ang isang babae, halimbawa, sa mga lalaki dahil lang sa nararamdaman niyang kati sa katawan at higit sa lahat ay kung naggamitan sila ng mga kaulayaw niya upang makapanloko ng iba. Ito yong sinasabi na “scratch mine and I will scratch yours”, opps! “Scratch my back, and I will scratch yours”, pala….sorry!. Sa nasabing sitwasyon, ang mga nagkamutan ay pare-parehong nakarating sa glorya, superduper pa ang kinitang limpak-limpak na kadatungan!...abangan ang susunod na mga kabanata….

Lumiliit na ang Mundo ni de Lima

LUMILIIT NA ANG MUNDO NI DE LIMA

Kung tuluyan nang sampahan ng kaso si de Lima, magtutuluy-tuloy na rin ang pagsikip ng kanyang mundo. May dahilan na siya ngayong lumipat ng tirahan dahil marami daw banta sa kanyang buhay. Masama na rin daw ang kanyang pakiramdam dahil sa mga bantang ito. Yong iba naman kasing sumasakay sa isyu ay basta na lang nagpadala ng mga text sa kanyang cell phone pagkatapos ibunyag sa kongreso. Sa kasong ito, may mali ang pinanggalingan niyang departamento na Department of Justic (DOJ) dahil ang dapat ginawa ay kinansela ang numero ng cell phone niya nang mag-resign siya upang tumakbo sa eleksiyon. Dahil hindi nakansela, ang billing para sa cell phone ay pinapadala pa rin sa DOJ. Yan ang gobyerno ng Pinas….maraming butas! Napakasimpleng responsibilidad ay hindi ginagawa dahil sa katamaran ng mga taong sinuswelduhan ng taong bayan!

Dapat i-monitor ang kanyang kilos dahil baka biglang mawala at ang idahilan upang hindi lumabas sa pinagtataguan ay ang mga banta sa kanyang buhay kuno. Asahan din ang “hospital arrest” dahil sa pinahapyaw na niyang “masamang pakiramdam”. Hindi puwede ang LBM lang upang tumagal siya sa ospital. Upang magkaroon siya ng brace sa leeg dapat ay mahulog siya sa hagdanan una ang ulo. Pero ang pinakamaganda ay magkaroon siya ng schedule ng maraming operasyon sa katawan, na mangyayari kung may tatanggalin tulad ng matris, appendix, kidney, lapay, apdo, mga ngiping paisa-isang bunutin, puso upang palitan ng mechanical apparatus, tenga na namaga dahil napasukan ng higad o alupihan, mata na natusok na barbecue stick, lalamunan na natusok ng “kung anong bagay” na naisubo, mga daliring tatanggalin o buong braso, mga paa, etc.

As of 29September, nagsabi ang abogado ni BJ Sebastian na gusto nitong magsiwalat ng mga nalalaman niya tungkol sa kalakaran ng illegal drug trade sa loob at labas ng New Bilibid Prison dahil nalalagay na sa peligro ang kanyang buhay. Isa sa mga sinisisi ay si de Lima dahil sa pagsiwalat na government asset si Sebastia. Malamang nasabi yon ni de Lima bilang paliwanag kung bakit siya pumapasok sa kubol ni Sebastian….subalit walang gustong maniwala. Sinabi pa ni de Lima na isa sa panggigipit sa kanya ay ang pagkulong ng dati niyang security aide na si Sanchez at pinipilit na pumirma ng salaysay laban sa kanya, subalit pinabulaanan naman ito ng spokesperson ng military sa pagsabi na “confined to barracks” lang si Sanchez at ni isang dokumento ay wala itong pinirmahan.

Sa pagwawala ni de Lima noong nakaraang presscon niya sa senado, 28 September, ay binanggit niya ang suggestion ng kaibigan niyang maghanap na ng “asylum” dahil ipapakulong daw talaga siya ni Duterte. Kung gagawin niya ito ay dapat sa bansang extradition treaty sa Pilipinas…hindi ko lang sure, pero baka pwede ang Colombia.

Ngayon ay naniniwala na akong ang ibang composer ay nakakakita ng future kaya sila nakakagawa ng mga awit, tulad ng nag-compose ng “My Way” at “My World is Getting Smaller Everyday”. Kapag gumawa kasi sila ng kanta, hindi lang sila nakatingin sa kasalukuyan kundi pati sa mga araw na darating pa.

Pero ang da best na nagustuhan ko at palagi kong pinapaalala sa mga kaibigan ko ay ang kasabihang, “palaging nasa huli ang pagsisisi”, at ang palasak na pagsisising sinasabi sa death bed ng mga milyonaryo na, “aanhin ko pa ang yaman kung mamamatay na ako?”.

The hysterical antics of de Lima during a presscon at the Senate in the morning of 28 September could have been another attempt to show her innocence of the drug crimes thrown at her. Obviously she was trying to pinch the heart of those who took time in listening to her emotional presentations.

She did not take the presscon opportunity to explain what happened to the millions and various jewelries turned over to her after a raid of NBP, in which only 1.6M pesos was reported. Those involved in the turnover are asking where the more than 300M pesos went. She even presented a text message which for her implied that Sebastian was being forced to testify against her, when the message was a simple plea from the wife of the subject detainee to tell everything he knows to end his ordeal as practically, fingers of the detainee/resource persons were all pointing at him. That being alleged, Sebastian is being viewed as the direct connect to de Lima who could further pin her down. In that case, who would “desire” to eliminate him?

In her dire effort to defend herself, de Lima put the life of Sebastian in jeopardy when she said that he is a government “asset”. But then, this allegation has raised many eyebrows, as how can an “asset” whose activities are supposed to be covert, meet with a government official in full view of other inmates? One witness even testified that Sebastian bragged about his close connection with de Lima, emphasizing such arrogance with an assurance that de Lima would come at a certain time to visit him which indeed happen during which she had a grand couple or more hours with him in his luxurious “kubol. If he is a witness as de Lima is alleging, all she could have done was summon him secretly for a meeting at one of the offices of NBP. The publicly exposed allegations are what de Lima should refute instead of being hysterical during the presscon in the morning of September 28. The hystirics of de Lima according to Duterte are signs of her ominous breakdown.

Overall, though, I surmised that de Lima could be a very very fine coach for elocutions and declamations. She did a very good performance which deserves a gold medal, had it been done during an inter-collegiate literary competition.

JUST BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT APOLOGIZED TO THE PERSONALITIES WHOSE CONNECTION HE COULD NOT SEE IN THE LATEST DRUG MATRIX PRESENTED TO HIM, DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE COULD HAVE ERRED IN HIS PAST PRONOUNCEMENTS THAT IMPLICATED MANY OFFICIALS BASED ON THE PREVIOUS LISTS.

HIS BRAVE AND GENTLEMANLY APOLOGIES JUST SHOW THAT HE IS SERIOUSLY ANALYSING REPORTS GIVEN TO HIM….THAT HE IS NOT THE TYPE WHO EASILY BELIEVES IN EVERYTHING REPORTED TO HIM. WHAT HE HAS NOT DIVULGED IS, PERHAPS, HIS BARRAGE OF REPRIMAND TO THE GUYS WHO GAVE HIM THE ERRONEOUS REPORT AND HIS WARNING TO THEM TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL NEXT TIME WHICH IS A NORMAL REACTION OF A SUPERIOR TO HIS SUBORDINATE.

HE SHOULD BE CREDITED FOR BEING TRANSPARENT IN TELLING THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE RESULT OF HIS ANALYSIS, AS HE COULD JUST HAVE KEPT IT TO HIMSELF, TREATING IT AS A CONFIDENTIAL MATTER BETWEEN HIM AND THOSE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE. WHAT IS VERY COMMENDABLE IS HIS OUTRIGHT DECLARATION THAT HE IS ASSUMING THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE COMMITED THE MISTAKE.

HIS APOLOGETIC STANCE BROUGHT TO MY MIND THE FORMER PRESIDENT PNOY AQUINO, WHO DESPITE BLUNDERS WAS NEVER HEARD TO HAVE UTTERED A SINGLE APOLOGY. AQUINO’S PREDECESSOR, GLORIA ARROYO DESPITE THE DOUBTS IN HER SINCERITY, SAID HER FAMOUS, “ I AM SORRY” ADDRESSED TO THE FILIPINOS, AS REGARDS THE “GARCI ISSUE” THAT REINSTATED HER AS PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES.

IN HIS DEPARTURE SPEECH AT THE MANILA INTERNATIONAL AIPORT TERMINAL 2 PRIOR TO HIS FLIGHT TO VIETNAM ON THE SAME DAY THAT DE LIMA CALLED THE PRESSCON, DUTERTE ALSO SINCERELY MENTIONED ABOUT HIS BEING A PERSON OF MANY FAULTS. HOW MANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS CAN DO THAT? ON THE CONTRARY THERE IS A GENERAL ATTITUDE AMONG THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ABOUT THEIR BEING “IMMACULATELY HONEST” DESPITE MANIFESTATIONS, COVERT AND BLATANTLY DISPLAYED… OF THEIR REPUGNANT DISHONESTY!

Ang Malasakit ng Anak sa Magulang

ANG MALASAKIT NG ANAK SA MAGULANG

Iba na talaga ang panahon ngayon. Hindi na nakasentro ang malasakit ng mga anak sa kanilang mga magulang….subalit hindi ko naman nilalahat. Marami na ang napapalingan o napapagbalingan ng kanilang malasakit at atensiyon. Kasama diyan ang mga barkada at gadgets. Kung mapagsabihan, lalayas agad at pupunta sa barkada, at kung uutusan ay nagbibingi-bingihan dahil nagko-computer o nagpi-facebook pa. Obvious na nawala ang respeto, kaya paano pa silang magkakaroon ng malasakit kahit katiting man lang sa kanilang mga magulang?

May mga anak na hindi man lang inisip kung may perang mahuhugot ang magulang tuwing sila ay may ipabibiling gamit upang hindi mapag-iwanan ng mga kaibigan, dahil kapag sinabihan silang walang pera ay sasama na agad ang loob. Maraming mga anak din ang walang pagkukusa sa pagtulong upang gampanan ang mga gawaing bahay. Nahihiya silang makita ng mga kaibigang nagwawalis sa bakuran o tapat ng bahay. Ayaw ding magluto o maglaba dahil mayroon naman daw perang pambayad sa kasambahay…at lalung-lalo na “nandiyan naman si mama”!

Maraming mga magulang na sa kagustuhang maibigay sa mga anak ang magandang kinabukasan nila, halos igapang na nila ang pagpapaaral sa mga ito, kesehodang mabaon sila sa utang. Hindi rin nila alintana kahit wala silang maitabi para sa kanilang pagtanda o retirement upang may maipambili man lang ng mga maintenance drugs o pambayad sa doktor para sa kanilang regular na check-up. Ang masaklap ay kung dumating ang panahong nakatapos na ang kanilang mga anak at biglang nag-asawa ang mga ito kaya malabo na para sa kanila ang makapagtanaw man lang ng utang na loob dahil nakakahiya sa mga asawa nila. Samantala, ang mga magulang na nagpakahirap hanggang humina ang katawan ay naiwang nakatunganga!...pero ang pinakamasaklap ay kung nag-asawa na nga ay tamad namang maghanap ng trabao at nagsusumiksik pa rin sa piling ng mga magulang na matatanda na parehong retired, at ang mga pensiyon ay kulang pa nga sa kanila.

Kaya ako gumawa ng blog na ito ay dahil sa napansin kong pangyayari kung paanong tratuhin ang kumpare ko ng kanyang anak na may trabaho bilang call center agent. Nang pasyalan ko siya sa Pasay ay natiyempuhan kong nasa bubong ito at naglalagay ng vulca seal sa mga butas ng yero. Ang anak namang lalaki ay nakaupo sa harap ng bahay nila at busy sa pagpi-facebook gamit ang isang tablet. Nang tawagin niya ang anak upang maghagis ng basahan sa kanya, hindi ito sumagot. Sa halip na sundin ang utos ng ama ay padabog na pumasok sa bahay at sinabihan ang katulong na gawin ang inuutos sa kanya. Sa awa ko sa kumpare ko ay ako na ang umakyat sa hagdanan upang iabot ang basahan sa kanya.

Yong isa namang kuwento ay tungkol sa anak na hindi man lang binuksan ang gate para sa nanay na hindi magkandaugaga sa pagbitbit ng pinamalengke. Hindi man lang sinalubong ng anak na busy rin sa pagpi-facebook gamit ang cell phone habang nakaupo sa labas lang ng pinto ng bahay nila. Hindi rin tumulong sa nanay niya upang maipasok ang dalawang grocery bags sa loob ng bahay.

Yong isa pang anak ay makapal naman ang mukha sa paghingi ng kanyang mamanahin “in advance”, na para bang may ipinatago sa mga magulang!...ang panahon nga naman!

THE PRETTY TARROSA SISTERS OF TACURONG

…FATIMA, YOLANDA AND LOURDES

When Tacurong was politically weaned from Buluan, the once flatland punctuated with pockmarks of marshes was obviously showing signs of fast development. The Oblates of Notre Dame came to establish a school and church which later adopted a patron, Our Lady of the Candles (Nuestra Seἧora de la Candelaria); enterprising migrants from Luzon and Visayas filled market stalls with various merchandises that came all the way from Cotabato City and Iloilo City; Chinese businessmen from Cotabato City and Dulawan came, too, to open better-stocked stores; the Dulawan Bus Company, and Cotabato Bus Company included the struggling town to their route over dusty roads to Davao City and Cotabato City; a fashion school (Aumentado, later Grimaldo) was opened, actually, a vocational school which taught hair styling and dressmaking; two more schools were opened, the Lyceum and Magsaysay Memorial College, and later, another vocational school, the Parisenne was opened. Meantime, the elementary school, Tacurong Pilot School was steadily flourishing. But the most prominent establishment was the Rural Bank of Tacurong.

The bank was managed by the Tarrosa couple who hailed from Iloilo. Clients came from as far as Isulan, Esperanza, Buluan, Tantangan, and Surallah. The couple had fair young daughters, Fatima, Yolanda and Lourdes…all long-haired and fair-skinned. Those are my recollection of the pretty sisters, as I used to go to their house, because their brother happened to be a classmate when I was in elementary. Their brother who was at the head of our class, as he was unquestionably intelligent had a unique name, being three- Jesus Armando Antonio. Among the three names, classmates chose “Antonio”. He would invite two or three of his classmate to their home, and which included me, where we grilled eggplants from their garden for our late lunch. Tony pursued his high school in Iloilo while we were left to continue our studies at Notre Dame for Boys.

The sisters seldom ventured outside their home which intrigued and challenged the young hombres of the town. They would just be seen on school days and during Sundays on their way to the church with their mother. Their long flowing black hair set them apart from the rest of the girls of the town, and which emphasized their modesty. I recalled the eldest, Fatima, to have played the role of a Virgin Mary during processions, a role which was also played by another long-haired and fair lass, Concepcion (Mrs. Cainglet today), as well as, Rosemarie Mojado and Aileen Jordan.

As Junior-Senior prom would approach, daring college and high school students would pray hard to all the saints before facing their strict mother to seek permission for the girls to grace the occasion with their presence as to be paired with any of them was an honor. They would find out that the mother was not so strict after all as she would readily give her permission for as long as it was asked with all respect.

The intrigued and curious of the town learned that the sisters and their brothers left the town to pursue their studies in Iloilo and Manila, particularly, University of the Philippines. When I was new in Manila, having just joined Philippine Airlines, I was able to visit them at their apartment in Diliman. Many years elapsed after that without any communication until I was invited to an informally organized “reunion” by Manuel Delfin, and which Tony was said to attend. Unfortunately, I failed to make it.

Practically, I had no idea how to reestablish my contact with the Tarrosa siblings until a colleague in PAL, John Fortes, gave me an old photo of two ladies and I was surprised to learn that one of them was Yolanda, while the other one was Olive Rocha. He told me about Lourdes’ being a UP campus personality. I kept the brownish photo hoping that I could one day show it to Yolanda and the opportunity came when we became “facebook friends.” After getting her permission, I am gladly posting the photo with this blog. In the photo, she is the one on the right, with long hair.

HINDI GARANTIYA ANG PINAG-ARALAN

UPANG MAKAPAGPAKITA NG KATAPATAN SA SINASABI

Sa pag-imbestiga kay Matobato sa senado, palaging sinasabi ni de Lima at Trillanes na Grade One lang daw ang inabot nito kaya dapat asahan ang mga inconsistencies sa mga sasabihin niya. Subalit nabisto ang maling impormasyon tungkol dito nang sabihin ng NBI na hanggang Grade Three ang inabot niya batay sa unang salaysay na hawak nila. Halatang kasama sa pagsisinungaling sa inabot na edukasyon ang inaasam na impresyon ng makakarinig sa sasabihin niya na gustong palabasing totoo dahil sa kanyang “pagka-ignorante” o dahil Grade One lang ang inabot.

Binoldyak ni Pacquiao ang balak ni Matobato at ng mga kung sino mang nagba-back up sa kanya. Tahasang sinabi ni Pacquiao na kung tapat siya sa kanyang sinasabi, dapat ay hindi pabago-bago ang mga ito dahil nanggagaling sa isip at puso, kahit Grade One lang ang inabot niya. Pero kung may nagdidikta pang iba, talagang malilito siya kaya ang resulta ay ang pabago-bago niyang mga sinasabi. Dahil sa animo ay pinraktis na mga salaysay mula pa noong unang pagpunta niya sa NBI dahil gusto siyang gamitin ng DOJ sa ilalim ni de Lima sa pagdiin kay Duterte sa mga kaso ng extra –judicial killing sa Davao, hindi tuloy tumugma ang mga salaysay niya.

Sa sinabi ni Matobato na nagpapabili daw si Makdum na “terorista” daw pala, ng malawak na lupain sa Samal upang gawing parang “training center”, imposible ang sinabi niya dahil ang isla ay halos kalbo na at ang mga tanim ay mga niyog lamang. Paanong magagamit ng mga terorista na “training center” nila ang Samal na sa himpapawid pa lang ay animo hubad na sa paningin ng mga dudungaw sa eroplano ng commercial flights? Ang Garden City of Samal ay dinadaanan ng mga eroplano bago lumapag sa paliparan ng Davao kung ang direksyon ay pakanluran.

Sa sinabi niyang noong-noon daw ay kumita siya ng 300 thousand pesos o mahigit pa sa pag-aahente ng lupa, mukhang imposible din dahil noong wala pa ang mga resorts ay kamurahan pa ng mga lupain sa Samal, lalo at hindi rin productive dahil mahina lang din ang kita sa mga niyog. Kaya paano siyang kikita ng ganoon kalaki kung sa panahong ito nga, kahit house and lot ang ibenta sa paligid ng Maynila, ang kikitain ng ahente ay halos 200k pesos lang? Gusto niyang palabasing siya ay isang lehitimong “real estate agent” upang masabing ang ginamit niya sa pagbili ng mga baril niya ay galing sa trabahong ito….at hindi sa pagpatay ng tao.

Sa mga sinasabi niyang pinapapatay sa grupo nilang DDS kuno, hindi rin kapani-paniwala ang pinagpipilitan niyang wala siyang tinatanggap…kung totoo ngang “mamamatay tao” siya. Hindi tanga ang isang hired killer na basta na lang papatay kung walang perang kapalit! Noon pa mang hindi pa mayor si Duterte ng Davao, may mga naglilipana nang mga “hired killers” at vigilante groups dahil sa sobrang kaguluhan na ang tinuturong sentro ay Agdao kaya tinawag ito noong “Nicaragdao”. Naglipana ang droga at mga NPA. Masasabi ko yan dahil nag-second year high school ako sa Holy Cross of Agdao at tumira sa Ipil, isang “squatter’s area” na malapit sa Lanang Bay kung tawagin. Mula sa eskwelahan ay nagso-short cut kami sa slum area ng Agdao na nasa tabi ng dagat upang marating ang tabing dagat na binabaybay namin hanggang Ipil.

Sa mga testimonya niya sa senado ay nagbabanggit na rin siya ng uri ng baril na malamang ay dinikta din sa kanya dahil ito ang pinamimigay ni Duterte sa iilang mga sundalo bilang pabuya ngayon, upang palabasing ito (Duterte) nga ang may pakana ng mga pinpapatay nga mga kriminal sa Davao. Subalit napapagpalit-palit niya ang impormasyon tungkol sa mga baril kung uulitin ang mga tanong. Sa kagagamit niya ng salitang “parang”, lalo lang lumutang ang pagkasinungaling niya dahil lumalabas na wala naman pala siyang direktang nalalaman tungkol sa mga pakikipag-usap ni Duterte sa mga binanggit niyang mga pulis na palagi niyang sinasamahan kung may papatayin kuno. Pumalpak din siya sa pagsabi na inihahatid niya sa Ateneo de Davao si Paolo ang anak ni Duterte, pero ang katotohanan ay sa Philippine Women’s University pumapasok ito. Ang Ateneo ay sa sentro ng lunsod at ang PWU ay sa Matina area kung saan nakatira ang mga Duterte.

Kung sa puso at isip mismo ng taong nagsasalita ang mga sasabihin niya, ibitin man siya ang patiwarik, walang mababago sa sinasabi niya kung talagang matapang siya tulad ng pinapakita ni Matobato. Subalit kung may naisamang mga galing sa ibang tao, magkakaroon siya ng pagkalito dahil dalawa na ang panggalingan ng mga lumalabas sa kanyang mga bibig, ang pansariling kaalaman at ang “itinanim” sa kanyang kaisipan.

ANG MGA SINASABI SA INTERVIEW

Dapat nang iwasan ng DOJ secretary ang pagpapa-interview palagi upang hindi makompromiso ang mga hawak nilang ebidensiya laban sa illegal drug trade sa Bilibid na nagdidiin kay de Lima. Hindi siya dapat mag-alalang isipin ng mga taong wala siyang ginagawa tungkol dito dahil mas malaking problema kung sa kasasalita niya ay may mabanggit siyang mga impormasyong hindi pala dapat ibunyag. Halimbawa ay ang sinabi niya pakikipag-ugnayan niya sa mga bangko tungkol sa mga deposito ng mga kaibigan ni de Lima, pero inamin din niya na WALA PANG EBIDENSIYA na magtuturo sa mga ito na may direktang kaugnayan kay de Lima. Bakit pa niya sinabi ito sa mga reporter na alam naman niyang madalas nagmi-misquote sa kanila at kay pangulong Duterte? Ang resulta niyan ay baka siya pa ang mademanda dahil sa pakikialam niya sa mga bank deposits ng mga tao dahil wala naman pala siyang batayan.

Dapat, kung may mahalaga man siyang impormasyon upang madiin si de Lima, ilabas na lang niya sa hearing upang hindi ito makapaghanda ng karampatang buwelta o depensa pagdating ng araw ng hearing. Sana ay gamitin nilang leksiyon si pangulong Duterte na habang dumadami ang mga sinasabi ay kanda-habol din sila sa pag-“explain why” o pagpapaliwanag o di kaya ay pagbawi sa mga sinasabi nito dahil ang iba ay offending at nakakaapekta sa imahe niya bilang presidente ng bansa. Dapat isaalang-alang ni Aguirre ang kasabihang, “less talk, less mistake”.

Iwasan SANA ng mga cabinet officials ang animo ay pakikipag-agawan sa mikropono upang marinig ng taong bayan ang kanilang sasabihin. Ang kailangan nilang ipakita ay ang resulta na ng kanilang mga pagkilos tulad ng pagpapaayos ng trapik sa kalsada at sa mga airport na may kaugnayan sa paglapag at paglipad ng mga eroplano dahil pagdating ng bandang tanghali ay nagsisimula na ang mga pagka-delay ng mga flights at umaabot hanggang gabi.

Ang isyu tungkol sa trapik ay apektado ng mga bagay na may kinalaman sa KALSADA, PASILIDAD (TRAFFIC LIGHTS, TOWING TRUCKS, CCTV CAMERA, COMMUNICATIONS FACITILITES, ETC.), MOTORISTA, SASAKYAN, AT MGA TAONG NAGPAPATUPAD NG PATAKARAN. Kung isa lang sa mga iyan ang pumalpak, siguradong mala-impiyerno na ang trapik tulad ng nangyayari sa Manila at mga karatig- lunsod nito. Dapat na ituring itong parang isang relo, na kahit isang piyesa lang ang sira, hindi na ito gagana o hindi kaya ay patigil-tigil na ang mga kamay sa pag-ikot. Ang disiplina ng mga motorista ay saklaw na ng pagpapatupad ng mga patakaran, na kung maayos ay siguradong susundin kaya mawawala ang lamangan at palusutan. Apektado din ang trapik ng masamang panahon dahil bumaha lang hanggang bukung-bukong lalo pa at sinabayan ng buhos ng ulan, ay halos ayaw nang umusad ang mga sasakyan.

Ang usaping ito ay may kinalaman sa hinihinging “emergency power” ng pangulong Duterte upang mapaayos daw ang trapiko sa Metro Manila na nakakaapekta din sa trapik ng mga karatig-lunsod, at malamang ay para na rin sa iba pang panig ng bansa na may lumalalang trapik. Subalit, kahit may tapang ang presidente sa pagpapatupad at mga ideya na lalong magpapaganda ng kanyang layunin, ang tanong ay: MAAASAHAN BA ANG TALINO AT KAKAYAHAN NG MGA TAONG ITINALAGA NIYA PARA SA GANITONG PROBLEMA?

Nakakadismaya na sa loob ng kung ilang beses nang pagkaroon ng Senate sessions tungkol dito, ang pinakamahalagang bagay na hinihingi ng komite ay hindi man lang naibigay ng mga taong itinalaga ng pangulo – ang detalyadong long-range plan, na isang SOP kung may isina-submit na “project proposa”l, na sa ganitong pagkakataon ay ang pagbigay ng emergency power sa pangulo. Bandang huli ay naibigay din kung hindi sila binigyan ng ultimatum. Ang problema sa trapiko ay NAKIKITA. Ang solusyon ay hindi nakukuha sa libro kundi sa mga alituntunin na angkop sa limitasyon ng sitwasyon at kultura ng mga taong maaapektahan. Hindi pwede ang sistema ng Singapore o Germany o Amerika, etc. Iba ang ugali ng mga Pilipino na ang disiplina ay batay sa nakagisnang kultura.

Hindi nangangahulugang walang disiplina ang Pilipino. May mga kapabayaan ang gobyerno na lalong pinalala ng kultura na sa tingin ng iba ay kawalan ng disiplina sa panig ng mga Pilipino. Ang ibig kong sabihin, ay halimbawa, ayaw maglakad ng malayo ang mga commuters mula sa isang akyatan/babaan ng mga skywalk o overpass na malayo ang distansiya sa isa’t isa, sa ilalim ng tirik na araw lalo na kung biglang bumuhos ng ulan, dahil ang mga sidewalk ay wala man lang silungan o shade.

Paanong maglalakad ng ganoong kalayo ang isang commuter na nakakurbata o babaeng nakapang-damit opisina sa ganoong kalagayan? Kung gagawin nila, siguradong pagdating sa opisina ay umaalingasaw na sila at ang damit ay nakadikit na sa katawan dahil sa pawis. Kung ang iniiwasan ng otoridad ay ang pagsulputan ng mga sidewalk vendors kung magkaroon ng silungan, dapat ay 24/7 na may police visibility na sumisita AGAD kung may mag-attempt na maglagay ng paninda. SUBALIT HINDI NANGYAYARI AT KUNG MAGKAROON MAN AY SA SIMULA LANG. WALANG CONSISTENCY O HINDI TULUY-TULOY. Isa lang yan sa mga dapat ay isaalang-alang ng mga itinalaga ng bagong pangulo.

Nakakatawa pa ang panukala na paglagay daw ng subways. Hindi yata nila alam na umihi lang ang mga pusa sa Maynila ay nagkakaroon na ng baha (joke lang!). Gusto yata nilang gumastos ang gobyerno para sa isang uri ng malaking drainage sa panahon ng tag-baha. Paanong aasahan ang maayos na maintenance ng subways, ganoong ang nandoon na nga lang sa harap ng Manila City Hall at ang nasa bandang Quiapo ay nagmimistulang lawa kung panahon ng tag-baha? Isa pa, mahina ang maintenance ng mga pasilidad na pampubliko sa Pilipinas, kaya mapapadagdag lang ang subways sa mga mapapabayaan ng ahensiyang itinalaga. Maraming pruweba kung bakit nawalan ng tiwala ang mga Pilipino pagdating sa ganitong bagay, at kasama na diyan ang kapalpakan ng MRT at mga road projects, pati ang mga government buildings na umaalingasaw ang mga comfort room at sirang elevator, lalo na ang airport terminals.

Ang lumang-lumang drainage system ng buong Metro Manila ay hindi na maaasahan dahil SINAKAL na ng mga infrastructures na nagsulputan tulad ng mga condo/commercial buildings, at lalong nasakal ang mga LABASAN na hindi kayang alalayan ng mga palyadong pumping stations. Idagdag pa diyan ang mga reclamations na ginawa tulad ng kinaroroonan ng ASEANA CITY sa Paranaque, hanggang sa MOA at Cultural Center areas sa Pasay. Ang mga gilid ng Pasig River sa Maynila ay halos puno na rin ng mga naglalakihang condo/commercial buildings.

Ano ang gagawin ng NASASAKAL na daluyan ng tubig mula sa mga siyudad na ORIGINALLY (panahon pa ng mga Amerikano) ay para sa iilang libong kabahayan at commercial establishments lamang, subalit ngayon ay ginagamit ng mga milyon-milyong tao?...resulta: PAG-APAW SA KALSADA NG TUBIG GALING SA KUBETA NG MGA APARTMENT, CONDO, RESTAURANT NA HUMAHALO SA BUMUBUHOS NA ULAN….RESULTA PA: ANG PAGBAHA NG MGA KALSADA NA DAHILAN NG PAGTATRAPIK! LAKIHAN MAN ANG MGA CULVERTS O MGA TUBONG DALUYAN NG MGA DRAINAGE, WALA PA RING MANGYAYARI DAHIL BUKOD SA “HUMABA” NA ANG DALUYAN DAHIL SA MGA RECLAMATIONS, PAGDATING SA DULO, ANG SEWAGE O MADUMING TUBIG AY SAKAL NA KAYA HIRAP NANG LUMABAS SA DAGAT!

Noon, ang mga pulis-trapiko ay hindi takot mabasa sa ulan. Ngayon ang nagtatrapik ay mga “enforcers” ng Metro Manila Development Authority, subalit marami ang nakakapuna na kapag magsimula nang pumatak ang ulan, ang ilan ay nawawala at ang naiiwang nagmamando ng trapik ay mga istambay na “barker”.

Palaging EDSA na lang ang tinitingnan ng pamahalaan pagdating sa isyu ng trapik. Para bang wala nang ibang kalsada. At, kung maglunsad naman sila ng operasyon upang “linisin” ang mga alternate streets, ay hind rin consistent….parang pagana-gana lang o di kaya ay kung marinig nilang magmura ang pangulo. Halimbawa dito ay noong unang umupo ang pangulo. Dahil sa takot na mapagdiskitahan, biglang kumilos ang LTO at LTFRB ng kung ilang araw din upang magtanggal ng mga illegally parked na mga sasakyan kuno sa mga tabi ng kalsada….napansin ko pa na 7AM pa lang ay kumilos na sila upang ma-tow ang mga sasakyan. Subalit ngayon, balik na naman sa dati ang kalagayan ng mga nagsisikipang kalsada na ang iba ay mayroon pang mga repair shop at basketball court! In fairness naman sa Divisoria area, ang kahabaan ng Recto mula sa Sta. Cruz hanggang Divisoria ay hindi nawawalan ng mga pulis kaya nawala ang mga vendors na sumakop na ng kalsada.

Ang nakakaligtaan ng gobyerno ay ang aspeto sa pagkontrol ng pagdami ng mga bagong sasakyan. Ito ang dapat na pagtuunan ng pansin dahil sa kamurahan ng animo ay mga disposable na mga sasakyan, maski janitor sa opisina ay may kakakayahan nang bumili ng hulugan basta may 20k pesos na pang-down payment lang. Kahit pa padaanin ang mga sasakyan sa mga exclusive subdivisions kung sakali, pero hindi pa rin pipigilan ang pagdami ng mga sasakyan taun-taon ay wala ring mangyayari sa mga plano na siguradong kokopyahin sa sistema ng ibang bansa. (Sa Singapore, bawal ang mga kending may pagka-bubble gum at may minimum na pasahero ang mga pribadong papasok sa lunsod…. kaya ba yang ipatupad sa Maynila?)

HINDI KAILANGAN ANG EMERGENCY POWER PARA MASOLUSYUNAN ANG PROBLEMA SA TRAPIKO sa aking pananaw. ANG KAILANGAN AY “CONSISTENCY” SA PAGPAPATUPAD NG MGA BATAS, MGA “MATATALINONG” PANUKALA at “MATATALINO” ring mga tao na gagawa ng mga ito, na ang TALINO ay hindi halaw sa mga libro kundi sa nakikita nilang AKTWAL na sitwasyon ng mga kalsada at ugali ng mga gumagamit!

Kung may “emergency power” siguradong hindi na mag-iisip ng ibang paraan ang mga taong itinalaga ng pangulo, kundi umasa na lang sa pinakamadaling nakasaad sa hinihinging kapangyarihang yan…na sana ay hindi ibigay ng senado. Ang kawawa dito ay ang pangulo dahil siya ang ituturo ng mga nasa ibaba niyang hindi niya nababantayan 24/7, kahit palpak ang kanilang ginagawa dahil ang sinasabi niya palagi ay aasa lamang siya sa resulta ng mga pagpapatupad. Tanggalin man niya ang mga pumalpak na nagpatupad, sira na ang kanyang programa at imahe!

USAPAN NAMIN NG KATABI KO SA BUS…

Ang nagpasimula ng usapan namin ay ang balita sa bus TV na nagbo-brodkast ng mga katiwalian sa gobyerno habang pauwi ako sa Cavite mula sa Lawton.

Katabi ko: Yan ang hirap sa ibang opisyal natin, eh, ginagawa tayong bobo.

Ako: Basta, ako hindi bobo. (Pahiwatig na ayaw kong makipag-usap, pero makulit ang katabi ko).

Katabi ko: Tulad noong babaeng opisyal, sana ay diniklara niya sa kanyang, ano ba yun?...Salain?...Salsalhin?...Salsalin?

Ako: SALN…Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth. Ang bastos mo!....siguro napanood mo ang video.

Katabi ko: Yon na nga….sana isinulat na lang niya doon ang pangalan ng kanyang kabit dahil okey yata ang asset nito? Dapat din niyang ideklara ang raket niyang pagpa-pyramid ng pera dahil hinihingi ang kanyang network (dinig niya sa net worth ay network)…o radio station kayang pagma-may-ari niya? Anong video nga pala?

Ako: Ewan ko. (kunwari, inaantok ako, pero makulit talaga ang katabi ko.)

Katabi ko: Ibig kong sabihin, video ng asset ng kanyang kabit?

Ako: Sinong may kabit?

Katabi ko: (tumahimik siya, pero sandali lang)….kung pagmamahalan ang sinasabi sa balita, dapat hayaan na lang.

Ako: Inaalala ko lang ang kaibigan kong bumaril ng kapitbahay niyang madaldal lalo pa kung lasing ito dahil pati paglalandi ng mga aso sa lugar nila ay kinukuwento sa iba kesyo mga wala daw pinipili at delikadesa. Ayon nagalit ang kaibigan ko dahil ibinalita ng daldalero na askal daw ang pinakahuling nagbuntis sa aso niyang nabili niya ng 70thousand pesos.

Katabi ko: Dapat lang pala siyang barilin.

Ako: Mismo!....ako nga ay may nasikwat at nasakal na noon na isang madaldal din, eh. Hindi lang namatay dahil inawat kami ng misis niya na nagmakaawa. Pero yong isa, sinipa ko palabas ng bus(biglang tumahimik siya).

Nang bumaba ang nasa harap namin, lumipat ang katabi ko sa nabakanteng upuan. Maya-maya ay tumayo at inabutan ako ng apat na mansanas na laman ng plastic bag na bitbit niya. Pagkatapos kong magpasalamat ay natulog na ako dahil sa matinding trapik. Nang magising ako sa Baclaran ay wala na ang lalaking madaldal….. Praise the Lord!

THE DRUG SITUATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

NEEDS IMMEDIATE ACTION BY DUTERTE

SOME detractors will always be detractors, as they are used to just criticizing without looking at the whole picture of a situation. In the case of Duterte’s effort to eliminate the drug menace in the country, what they perceive outright are the killed addicts, drug pushers and drug lords. Their focus is on the “kill”. I doubt if they ever give a damn to the effect of the crime committed by these killed drug personalities. Or, even give a deeper look into the circumstance as to “who” committed the killing because it could be done by drug suppliers or relatives of victims who just want to avenge their loved ones. Instead, these detractors immediately concluded that it is Duterte’s own doing.

These detractors say that instead of focusing on the lowly offenders such as drug addicts and drug pushers on the street, Duterte should give attention to the drug lords. For this contention, a question may be asked as to what will the police do to the drug addict who rapes and kills his victim? How about the drug-deranged robbers who victimize innocent students on their way to school or home?...etc. Drug-related situations call for IMMEDIATE action as they are wantonly done on the street. Unfortunately before, apprehending police themselves would complain about crime perpetrators being bailed out by financiers on the day they are booked.

As regards the drug lords that should be killed instead of the lowly drug addicts and pushers – these drug kingpins are inside the New Bilibid Penitentiary which even before Duterte’s assumption of presidency, have been reeking with anomalies. Drug lords give instructions via cell phones to their cohorts who are concocting drugs on the high seas, remote barangays, and even exclusive subdivision in Manila, or directing delivery of stocks from China. Even before he was elected as president, drug transactions have been going on inside the facility, obviously blessed by those who are supposed to enforce the law. What will Duterte do now that he is the president?...bring these drug lords out of the prison and have them shot one by one in Luneta as what Marcos did to a Chinese drug lord, to scare the would-be drug laboratory operators out of the country? THERE IS NO BUDGET FOR THE IMMEDIATE BUILDING OF REHAB CENTERS IF THIS IS WHAT’S IN THE MIND OF QUIXOTIC DETRACTORS, AS THE BUDGET ON HAND THAT HE INHERITED DOES NOT INCLUDE SUCH PROVISION.

Duterte has been very vocal about the revival of the death penalty which human rights advocates oppose. In this regards, what will he do?...call a prayer meeting of his cabinet secretaries and with all kindness, plan a humane strategy to be approved first by the CBCP and the Commission on Human Rights?...ask evangelists to pray over the drug lords in Bilibid so that they will change their ways? The government that Duterte has inherited is so diseased that it is even doubtful if its agencies have updated Operating Manuals that are supposed to guide them in their day to day operations. On the other hand, many laws are pitifully loop-holed, a situation that intelligent lawyers use to win high-priced and high-profiled cases. These are just some of the situations that met Duterte when he assumed the presidency. It needs a Martial to circumvent all those loop-holed laws and deeply-rooted anomalies, to set things straight.

The drug addicts and pushers have been given a chance via the “Operation Tokhang” which was successful in Davao. Unfortunately, in Manila, those who have been given the chance make a mockery of the law, as after signing the waiver, they went back to their old ways.

Detractors are pinning Duterte down with his deadline to accomplish what he promised to cleanse the country of drug menace in 3-6 months. After finding out the enormous extent of such nuisance he expressed a surprise as obviously he underestimated the drug situation in the country, and as a human being, his predicament deserves understanding…while, on the other hand, the detractors opted not to say a word, as if saying, “good for you!”

Hindi nanalo bilang bise-presidente si Cayetano, kaya balik siya sa Senado upang ipagtanggol si Duterte. Kung wala siya sa Senado, baka noon pa na-convict ni de Lima ang bagong presidente.

Hindi tinanggap ni Pacquiao ang imbitasyon noon ng Liberal Party. Mabuti na lang, dahil baka nahawa siya ng “political virus”.

Nanalo si Pacquiao bilang senador. Siguro, dahil siya ang pinaka-neophyte na senador, sa kanya naitalaga ng mga kaalyado ang panawagan o paggawa ng motion na buwagin ang Justice and Human Rights Committee na pinangungunahan ni de Lima. Sa paningin kasi ng karamihan, siya lang ang bukod-tanging wala pang bahid ng kulay-pulitika. Dahil sa kanyang motion, na-knock out si de Lima!

Inilabas ni de Lima si Matobato bilang witness daw laban sa “extrajudicial killings” na ang pasimuno ay si Duterte…kaya ang batong ipinukpok niya sa kanyang ulo ay nasundan ng knock-out jab ni Pacquiao. Kung hindi dahil kay Matobato ay hindi nadiin at napatunayan na meron ngang mga “fairy tales” na kuwento laban kay Duterte.

Si de Lima ay naitalaga bilang chairperson ng senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights kaya bago napalitan ni Gordon ay nakita ng taong-bayan ang tunay niyang kulay mula sa kanyang mga colorful adventures at long-ranged plan na pagtakbo bilang senador noon pa palang 2013. Kaya pala, ang moro-morong imbestigasyon na ginawa ng DOJ sa ilalim niya tungkol sa operasyon ng droga sa Bilibid ay bigla niyang binitiwan at muntik nang makalimutan kung hindi nanalo si Duterte.

May maingay na namumuno sa simbahang Katoliko kaya lalo lang nakita ng mga naguguluhang kapanalig kung anong uring pinuno meron sila, na nagtulak upang lumipat sila sa mga nagsulputang New Christian Groups na ayon sa kanila ay mas kapani-paniwala bilang taga-pamahagi ng mga Salita ng Diyos. Kung ang namumuno ng isang grupo ay parang kabayong humihila sa karetela, na diretso lang ang tingin, paano siyang magiging kapani-paniwala kung hindi niya nakikita ang buong paligid?

May makulit na reporter nagtanong kay Duterte tungkol sa “extra judicial killings”, bago siya lumipad patungong Laos upang dumalo ng ASEAN conference kaya nagkaroon ng dahilang ilabas ni Duterte ang mga saloobin niya tungkol sa patuloy na pakikialam ng Amerika sa Pilipinas.

Dahil sa mga nabanggit, naniniwala akong may dahilan ang lahat ng mga pangyayari sa mundo.

ANG MALAKING “DAIRY FARM” SA PILIPINAS

Sa dalawang araw na pakikinig ko sa mga sinabi ng mga Bilibid detainees sa Congress hearing tungkol sa illegal drugs na nagsasangkot sa isang babae na ngayon ay senador na nagngangalang Laila de Lima, ay hindi ko maiwasang ma-imagine ang isang malaking “dairy farm” kung saan ay may matatagpuang mga patabaing baka upang gatasan. May mga maliit na bakahan sa Masbate, Batangas at ilang bahagi ng Mindanao at ang mga baka ay ginagatasan subalit kung malaking dairy farms ang pag-usapan, ang mga ito ay matatagpuan sa New Zealand at Australia.

Dito sa Pilipinas, ang animo malaking dairy farm ay ang New Bilibid Prison sa Muntinlupa kung saan ay naroon ang mga high-profile detainees na “ginagatasan” din pero hindi gatas kundi pera na ang pinanggagalingan ay illegal na drogang ibebenta sa loob mismo ng Bilibid at sa labas sa pamamagitan ng mga pusher nila. Kung magbanggit ng kaperahan sa Congress hearing, ang mga milyones ay animo barya lang. Ang nanggagatas ay itinuro ng mga “witness” na si senador de Lima na abot-langit ang pagtanggi. Siyempre, natural lang yon dahil sino nga ba naman ang tatanggap ng kasalanan, lalo pa at ang taong inaakusahan ay naturingang magaling na abogado.

Nakakagulat na sa loob ng isang linggo ay napakadaling lumikom ng 3 milyong piso na pinapadala kay senador de Lima para umano magamit sa kanyang pangangampanya para sa puwestong senador noong nakaraang eleksiyon. At ang nakakagulat pa, ay mismong mga opisyal ng Bilibid ang nagagamit bilang tagapamagitan sa mga high-profile detainees na ang isa ay kilalang big-time drug lord. Kung totoo man, malinaw na ang nasabing pasilidad ay animo pag-aari ni de Lima, kung saan ay nakakakuha siya ng pera anumang halaga ang gusto niya.

Naalala ko noong malakas pa si sinador Defensor at sumugod din sa Bilibid para mag-imbestiga sa mga anomalya, ang una niyang hiningi ay ang “Operating Manual” pero walang naibigay sa kanya upang malaman sana kung paanong “mag-operate” ang pasilidad. Subalit dahil sa mga nakakagimbal na pangyayari, kahit meron pa nito, siguradong hindi rin masusunod.

Ang nangyari kaya noon at sana ay hindi na nangyayari na ngayon sa New Bilibid Prison, ay nangyayari rin sa iba pang ahensiya ng gobyerno?...sana ay hindi.

THE PROBLEM WITH THESE GLOBAL “GIANTS”

AND BROWN-SKINNED “AMERICANS”

The problem with these global “giants” is that they have a narcissistic impression that only they are right…only they can tell other nations what to do…hence, nations that belong to the third world should believe and not just bow, but even kowtow to them.

First is the United Nations with its unsavory remark about the anti-illegal drug operations of president Duterte. West-based media, the likes of CNN and Reuter, took their turn in lambasting the Philippine president, followed by the United States’ president who called Duterte, a “colorful guy”. Lately, the European Union joined the bandwagon of hecklers. They believe the insignificant cluster of hypocrite Fil-Ams in America who are reportedly working for the ouster of Duterte. These hypocrites are brown-skinned Filipinos born in the Philippines, migrated to America, kissed the ass of their Uncle Sam, and earned a “citizenship”, as well as, their offspring, still brown-skinned but already born in that country. They go to the Philippines which for them has become just an exotic touristic destination, for a short vacation, speak in wersh-wersh English. That short span of time for them, makes them think that they know the archipelago by heart, so they can “authoritatively” say that Duterte who hails from the far southern island of Mindanao is not fit to be president because he cusses and “kills people”!

The United Nations through its committee that handles disputed territories among nations has shown its weakness by admitting that other than declaring its pro-Philippines verdict on the issue of the West Philippine Sea, it cannot do anything because it has no “police power” to enforce the decision. It is no surprise then that China until now does not have even a bit of trust in such committee. The unrest in the African continent that compounded the unchecked and creeping hunger has further put to fore the seeming uselessness of this organization of nations. It has not done anything to check the genocide in Eastern Europe triggered by territorial disputes, not even the European Union. Whatever action they have taken was late in coming, after thousands have been massacred and raped. The United States is not yet free from the pall of horror hovering her - the nightmare of Vietnam War that affected neighboring SEA nations, including the Philippines, after she was required to send “assistance”, hence, the PHILCAG was organized. NOW, THESE “GIANTS” WANT TO DIP THEIR FINGERS INTO THE AFFAIRS OF THE PHILIPPINES JUST BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT THE WAY PRESIDENT DUTERTE DOES HIS THING IN FIGHTING THE DRUG MENACE!

The earth is populated by peoples with different cultures and although, adaptation is possible, it is only to a certain extent. No other race can force another to totally absorb what it imposes. The impossibility is due to the innate “line of thinking” of different races. For instance, a Filipino may become very fluent, even more fluent than a native American in speaking English, but he will always think and feel as a Filipino. No amount of hamburger, spaghetti, and other western food can make him forget the taste of pinakbet, bagoong, dried fish and rice. It happened to the Hellenization effort of Alexander the Great of nations that he conquered, as they did not totally absorb the culture of Greece, so they remained as distinct races.

WHAT I AM DRIVING AT HERE IS THAT, WESTERN PEOPLES SHOULD NOT EXPECT FILIPINOS TO COPY THEIR WAYS, JUST BECAUSE THEY THINK THAT THEIRS IS THE BEST. IN THIS REGARD, JUST BECAUSE PRESIDENT DUTERTE IS DOING HIS FIGHTING THE DRUG MENACE IN THE WAY THAT FITS THE DETERIORATING DISCIPLINE OF FILIPINOS, DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE IS WRONG.

THOSE IN THE WEST SHOULD KNOW THAT ALL PRESIDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES, EXCEPT FERDINAND MARCOS WITH HIS MARTIAL LAW, WERE ALL LAX IN IMPLEMENTING THE PHILIPPINE LAWS THAT AFFECTED THE DISCIPLINE OF THE FILIPINOS IN GENERAL. THERE IS A TRADITIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE PHILIPPINES WHICH IS PREDOMINANTLY POPULATED BY CHRISTIANS, THAT THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE RULED WITH UTMOST KINDNESS AND HUMANENESS THAT EVEN LED TO THE SCRAPPING OF DEATH PENALTY. IT BROUGHT FORTH THE CULTURE OF “SIGE NA LANG”, “OKEY NA YAN”, “PAGBIGYAN MO NA”, “KAWAWA NAMAN”, ETC. CORRUPTION TOOK ROOT, DISCIPLINE HAS SORT OF BECOME A MYTHICAL VIRTUE…AND, FINALLY, THE WHOLE NATION JUST GOT SURPRISED WHEN PRESIDENT DUTERTE ANNOUNCED THAT THE DRUG MENACE HAS PENETRATED EVEN THE REMOTEST BARANGAYS THAT IRONICALLY, REMAINED UNTOUCHED BY DEVELOPMENTAL BLESSING FROM THE GOVERNMENT!

On the other hand, if the European Union is doing just fine, why is one of its significantly influential members left it? If the United States has the best system ever, how can it explain the intermittent bombings and the ongoing police brutality, and the over-the-counter vending of guns that even minors can take hold of one? If the United Nations is doing its job, how can it explain the ongoing unrests and poverty around the world that may erase some races from the face of the earth?

These “giants” should emulate the church heads of the world, who are minding their own yard, especially, the most respected, Pope Francis who even has the courage to admit the misbehaving of some priests. Can these “giants” admit their shortcoming and failure?..I DOUBT IT!

There is a saying that before one minds the dirt on somebody’s face he should first look at his own on the mirror to see if he got one. Another adage says that, as one points one accusing finger at somebody, his three other fingers are pointing back at him!

FINALLY, I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW GREEN CARD OR US VISA HOLDING BROWN-SKINNED, PUG-NOSED FILIPINOS WHO BELIEVE THEY ARE AMERICANS, AND WHO LIVE IN THE FAR-OFF AMERICA, CAN HAVE THE TEMERITY TO WORK FOR THE OUSTER OF A PRESIDENT WHO JUST WANT TO HAVE A DRUG-FREE NATION FOR HIS PEOPLE! THESE BROWN AMERICANS CEASED TO BE FILIPINOS WHEN THEY GOT HOLD OF “BLESSINGS” STAMPED ON THEIR PASSPORT.

THEY DESERVE TO BE BANNED FROM COMING TO THE PHILIPPINES!

Group of people caught her eyes

She was startled, she started to fall
All she have to do is, call
They grabbed her! Powerless woman!
She lie, with different man..

Assaulted, raped, cannot walk her legs, crippled
She stayed quiet, let her tears ripple
No voice to speak for she will be judged
By the people who didn't experience all of that

Disgrace, we all see her
Replace, everything, but stayed forever
We see, we judge, people we crush
She can't, she tried, she left without saying goodbye

Suicide, dreams have crushed
Set aside, all the voice hushed
Cannot speak, whatever leaks
Truth hurts, dreams have already been burnt

Total Cleansing of the Philippines may be Impossible, but Something is being Done by Duterte

TOTAL CLEANSING OF THE PHILIPPINES MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE

BUT SOMETHING IS BEING DONE BY DUTERTE

Unlike the past administrations, something is being done by the Duterte’s own today as regards the problem on drugs and criminality. It is an accepted fact that had the past administrations after Marcos did their job in at least curbing the proliferation of the drug menace in the country, it could have not gone to the seemingly uncontrollable extent at the time of the Duterte administration. Pro-life advocates say that since the death penalty had no effect on criminals anyway, it is good that it has been scrapped. They forgot that when Marcos had a big time Chinese drug lord shot at Luneta, there was an exodus of other drug lords out of the country and the spread of illegal drug somehow decreased, as even the use of marijuana to which the drug users resorted was minimized.

Duterte himself, insisted that the reason why some observers say that the death penalty has no effect on criminals is because, the laws were not strictly implemented. Although there were apprehensions before, convictions were very insignificant in number due to corrupt judges or the so-called “rogues in robe”, even the police rank has been tainted with involvement in view of the so-called “recycled drugs” that find their way to the streets. Some high-ranking government officials were not spared with the uncovering of the systematic “narco-political” scheme in which “narco-money” is raised to finance the campaign of many politicians who as expected get elected. Even some of those in the military are involved according to the list revealed by Duterte. As it is a public knowledge that as soon as apprehensions were blotted down, but with suspects bailed out by their financiers who will be hanged or convicted to die if there are no convicts?

The stumbling blocks in the effort of cleansing are the so-called, religious and human rights advocates who by their acts, show that those they protect are the criminals instead of the victims. Their banner is emblazoned with “unjust extrajudicial killings” with their fingers pinpointing at the police and the new president. Not a single banner carries even a lightly-written “save the victims of illegal drugs”. Their acts show hypocrisy to the highest level!

Total cleansing of the country from illegal drugs could mean a lot for the Filipinos who are surprised by the number of those affected, as practically, greed has bred corruption in all levels and sectors of the society. Again, the problem here, are the stumbling blocks.

By the way, in building highways, boulders and rocks that block the way are bulldozed, otherwise, the highways will never be leveled and paved with either concrete or asphalt.

THE PRIEST IS A PAINTER…FR. BONG VILLALAOBOS

Despite his busy schedule as assistant secular priest who is assigned to numerous areas such Nueva Ecija, Mandaluyong, Quiapo, Sta. Cruz, and today, Caloocan, Fr. Bong still has the time to delve on painting. Even during his student days, he has been expressing his inner feelings and emotions through sketches and paintings. Aside from painting, he has drafted a book on the discipline of meditation complete with inspiring religious figures. He is a member of the Tuesday Club, an active organization of painters who holds exhibits occasionally.

During our early morning meeting, he gave in to my request to take photos of his paintings available at the time, as some are displayed in the office of a friend. He also promised to show the portfolio that contains a complete set of his paintings. I was fortunate during my visit because his mother, Aurora, was around and also consented to my request for a photo opportunity with her son. In my future blog, the rest of his paintings from the portfolio shall be shared with viewers.
