The 2016 Philippine Presidential Election...could be the worst

The 2016 Philippine Presidential Election
…could be the worst
By Apolinario Villalobos

In the eyes of the ordinary Filipino, the 2016 Philippine Presidential election will be “bloody” and full of frauds, aside from very expensive due to the expected massive vote-buying that will happen. The following are the reasons why:

  • Roxas, Pnoy’s bet must win so that he (Pnoy) will be assured that his cases and planned suits will not prosper. If Roxas wins, he will find his hands full of indebtedness to people, aside from Pnoy, who wanted him to sit as president so that they can go on with their corrupt practices, by virtue of manipulation.

  • Binay must win so that his graft cases will not prosper, especially, if the corrupt congressmen who stand as the majority in the Lower House will cross over to his side of the fence. Binay’s success will also signal the victory of Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla, who may even be granted “temporary” release from their detention, and Pnoy will have his share of humiliating court appearances.  Binay might even be supported by militants who are observably very silent when it comes to issues against him.

  • If Poe wins, both Pnoy and Binay will surely spend days in court to defend themselves for graft cases filed against them. The only hope of Poe is the united stand of the different Christian churches. Militants will definitely not support her. If, the Roxas camp will be split at the last minute in her favor, she will have a chance of winning. Those from the Roxas camp who will support her, are the “trapos” (traditional politicians), who will again change their color, hoping that they can control the inexperienced Poe, hence, continue in pursuing their selfish motives which stinks of corruption.

Because of the above situations, both the Roxas and Binay camps will exert deadly effort, though separately, to discredit Poe. The Roxas camp will do it very subtly, while Binay’s will be severe, touching even on trivial matters, such as Poe’s adoption, which it is doing now. But, the bitter fight shall be between Roxas and Binay.

The campaign season will make the electorate temporarily rich because of the expected flood of cash, although, some bills shall be bogus or fake, as usual. Electoral campaigns shall be characterized by cash dole-outs even in broad daylight, without fear or timidity. Most alarming, though, is that the people behind the “hello Garci” scandal are still lurking in the COMELEC!

The Commission on Election is expected to play “helpless” on election-related problems due to their claim for inadequate facilities and staff, as their way of washing their hands every time problems crop up during election. Expect, too, finger-pointing on the foreseen failure of vote-counting due to breakdowns of the already inadequate computers.

Worst, there may be attempts to declare a failure of election and a military take-over. The forthcoming election is expected to be chaotic because honor and integrity of the families concerned, except that of Poe’s, are at stake!

As Expected, the Binay Camp has started its Smear Campaign Against Grace Poe

As Expected, the Binay Camp
has Started its Smear Campaign Against Grace Poe
ni Apolinario Villalobos

This early, the color of VP Binay as a “trapo” (traditional politician) can be clearly discerned. He is gravely disappointed due to the signing of Grace Poe in the recommendation, that plunder be filed against him and his son, Junjun, the current mayor of Makati City. His feelings are aggravated by Poe’s plan to run for president.

The camp of the Binays erred in using against Grace, the issues on her being an adopted, dual citizenship, and lack of residency. All the accusations are practically ineffectual. Ever since she was a student, Grace already that knew that she is not a biological daughter of Susan Roces and Fernando Poe, Jr. She is even sharing with much pleasure, the story on how she was adopted. The issue on her dual citizenship has long been resolved, as her American citizenship has already been revoked. And her lack of residency has, likewise, been answered.

The camp of Binay has been committing blunders in its strategies, the reason why it failed in its effort to cover up the piling of cases resulting to the plunder case filed against him and his son, Junjun.

Good thing that Grace boldly issued a statement that she does not mind the accusations against her, unlike the plunder case being filed against “somebody”. Many are saying that in the issue of presidency, Grace is an “underdog”, unlike the other party who is definitely a “dog”. The penchant of the Filipinos for melodrama made them love underdogs.

The 6-month Freeze Period on Binay Assets should not be a cause for jubilation

The 6-month Freeze Period on Binay Assets
should not be a cause for jubilation
By Apolinario Villalobos

The media exploded the freezing of the Binay assets and those of their dummies that include bank deposits, securities and insurances for six months. The total amount involved is more than Php11B in 242 bank accounts. However, the aggrieved party was not notified formally about this and their lawyer failed to get a copy even from the office that issued the freeze order. Where is seriousness in all this process? Also, will the six months freeze period achieve its desired result? Who will stop the Binays from withdrawing their stashed wealth after six months?

The SOP in coordination was not observed when the office responsible for the freeze, did not bother to give a copy of the order to the concerned party. Meanwhile such negligence will surely give the aggrieved party a reason to use “technicalities” in asking a higher court for the lifting of the freeze. That is how dysfunctional the government and its agencies are!

On the other hand, the senator daughter, Nancy and their lawyer, a certain Certeza, vehemently denied such enormous amount because out of the total number of accounts in question, she says that only several are in the name of his father, the Vice-President. The problem with senator Binay is that she has been presuming that Filipinos are pea-brained, for what kind of fool will deposit embezzled money and assets in his own account? She forgot that there are people who are willing to be used as “conduit” or “dummy”. As a senator she should know this common scheme, as she was one of those who questioned Janet Lim Napoles during Senate hearings about scams involving pork barrel of lawmakers and ghost NGOs. To put an end to all the accusation, the family should bring out their dummies, especially, Limlingan, so that they can assume ownership to the said accounts.

What is incomprehensible is the short period of freezing, as if the ban has been slapped without seriousness. Six months is obviously not enough in view of the enormous amount involved and the gravity of the cases of graft and corruption against the Binays. Also, those who filed the request for the freeze are so naïve as not to perceive that the six months period is not enough to prevent the Binays from using their money for the forthcoming election in 2016, if this is their objective.

Along this line, the TRO issued by the court on the suspension of Junjun Binay as mayor of Makati, viewed to be unfair by many sectors as it will give the said mayor the opportunity to dispose documents related to his graft case, is still fresh in the mind of the Filipinos.  Presumably, this time, the court could have granted the freeze request on the Php11B, but only for a “convenient” period of six months to the advantage of the Binays who can easily withdraw their money as soon as the ban is lifted. The court is obviously very careful…..especially, as some of the rogues in robe have been exposed lately. In Pilipino, the appropriate statement for this action is: “pinagbigyan lang, para walang masabi”.

An Uncalled For Remark of Binay Indicates his Pro-Chinese Sentiment

An Uncalled For Remark of Binay
Indicates his Pro-Chinese Sentiment
By Apolinario Villalobos

The surprising remark of Vice-President Binay in an interview over DZYM, a radio station in Catarman, Samar, on April 12 already reveals his un-Filipino scheme if ever he becomes President of the Philippines. He openly declared, “may pera po ang China, kailangan natin ng capital…”. This goes to show that he will welcome with open arms whatever expected one-sided talks (in favor of China), that will be proposed to him when becomes president of this long-beleaguered country of “resilient” Filipinos. If that happens, not only will the Filipinos continue to suffer from the sucking of the corrupt government officials but also the economic manipulation of a foreign power, as well.

Not only will the shores of the western coast of the country be opened to the Chinese by virtue of the extended Chinese sovereignty provided by the artificial islands that they (Chinese) are being building right within the maritime territory of the Philippines. The already Chinese-dominated economy of the country will surely be stamped with calligraphic symbols. The Chinese shall feast on opportunities to be offered in the exploration of natural resources, such as, oil, natural gas, and many others because as Binay implied, they have the money for the operation.

Binay may have Singapore in his mind as a model for an Asian country to be called progressive. He even unabashedly compared himself to Lee Kuan Yew who engineered the miraculous development of Singapore, a once struggling port in Southeast Asia. He must also be thinking that he has done so many things for Makati, recognition of which, he is forcing on those who respectfully listen to him…when in fact, he is now under fire for what he had been doing in Makati – allegedly profiteering from big projects.

What Binay has forgotten is that the discipline of the Singaporeans is much different from the kind of the Filipino discipline. Lee Kuan Yew has successfully maintained a clean administration which is way way far from the corruption-riddled mindset of the Philippine government officials, and that includes him, according to the senators who are investigating his graft and plunder cases. In the Philippines, the impression that the easiest way to amass money is by entering the arena of politics, and the shameful number of investigation on corrupt cases prove this. Binay forgot that he is one of those being investigated.

Some Asean neighbors of the Phillipines are enjoying real progress, not the one shown in reports of paid researchers, even by not bowing to the dictates of super powers such China and the United States. Vietnam which was haplessly mowed to the ground during a pocket war with the United States is now way ahead of the Philippines. Cambodia is steadily increasing its inbound tourist influx by maintaining its traditional eco-tourism system minus hotel complexes that are built by foreign investors. Malaysia, despite its restrictive culture is way ahead in practically all aspect of development compared to the Philippines. Binay unfortunately has a different view as regards progress.

The muddled situation of the Philippine is being used by Binay in his early campaign for presidency, promising paradise to the constituents of the “sister cities and towns of Makati” throughout the country, especially the far-flung ones in Visayas and Mindanao….promises such that what he did to Makati, he will do to the country when he becomes president. Some people, though, remark that indeed he will do – make the whole country as a vast personal business empire!

Binay is trying to fool the Filipinos by giving them his own interpretation of “progress” which is tantamount to the dissolution of nationalism. For him, progress means shopping malls, towering condos, bustling commercial centers…though, the fact is, profits are not deposited in Philippine banks but brought out by foreign investors back to their own countries at the expense of nationalism. And the jobs?...yes, there are jobs – call center agents, sales clerks, drivers, factory workers, etc. – all on contractual basis!

The image of Makati that he has been proudly using as showcase of his performance is now crumbling with the glaring issues on how he and his family allegedly gained from the big projects that are painted over with false benevolence. They have yet to prove a single accusation to be false…
