Road
to Nowhere
By Apolinario Villalobos
Veiled by a haze that seems to cut its
length
The road I was told is straight and smooth
Is nothing but a few arm lengths of stretch
That I can take in a few long strides
But beyond that -
What?
An empty promise by one, presumptuously
proud
The road he boasted is hazed by anomalies
Beyond which nothing else can be discerned
If indeed, it is straight, smooth,
unhampered
That I can tread even for days of trek
So I still ask will I -
Why?
It’s a road to nowhere, dreadfully looking
with haze
That no amount of convincing words from
Pnoy
Can paint over a picture viewed with
frustration
Not even honey-coated new promises of
deceit
Will make me take steps that I will just
regret
Yes, not even further –
Never!
